- The call for proposals for the first phase of the Action Plan Process Intensification was launched in August 2009, and closed on December 18, 2009
- 4 project proposals have been well evaluated by the APPI Evaluation Committee, and received a combined total budget of EUR 13,5 million
- The Skyline Theme, also part of the first phase, started with the Delft Skyline Debates in December 2009
The Action Plan Process Intensification (APPI) aims to accelerate the implementation of process intensification in the Dutch process industry. The plan includes a research program of eleven program lines. The first phase of the Action Plan concerns four program lines, for a total budget of EUR 14 million over a period of five years, of which EUR 7 million is subsidy from the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Innovation Agenda Energy, and EUR 7 million comes from cash and in-kind contributions of industry and knowledge infrastructure. The four program lines selected for the first phase of APPI were: Alternative energy-based operations, Transport-limited processes, PI process analysis tools, and the Skyline Theme. The first three program lines were open for project proposals - the following project proposals were well evaluated on both scientific quality and deployment potential, and received a combined total budget of EUR 13,5 million:
The 4 project consortia will develop detailed project agreements in the coming weeks, so that the R&D activities can start soon. In December 2009 the other APPI program line – the Skyline Theme – started with the Delft Skyline Debates. More than 30 process technology specialists from universities and companies throughout Europe convened in Delft to develop a vision of process technology innovations that have to be achieved to address major challenges of our society in 2050 and beyond. The Skyline Theme will result in the publication of several scientific papers, and process technology research topics for the period 2010 – 2015.
The Dutch Separation Technology Institute (DSTI) functions as the legal and administrative entity for the execution of the Action Plan Process Intensification. DSTI's process intensification component was detailed in cooperation with the Energy Transition Platform Chain Efficiency. The program's execution is enabled by a subsidy from the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Innovation Agenda Energy.
